Square + Enix = Squenix? [ Geekiness ]
As reported by Yahoo and GamePro, and as seen on Slashdot, Japanese RPG studios Square and Enix are merging. Could be a good move for Square, given that it lost so much money on its Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within movie. Either way, the resulting company will be the dominant force in the Japanese RPG market, and have a huge share in the US RPG market. Here's hoping that this results in more games like Chrono Trigger and fewer games like Kingdom Hearts.
Java on FreeBSD [ Software ]
Tried to get Java 1.3.1 support working in FreeBSD (primarily for Mozilla), and it's not as straightforward as I thought it would be. There's more downloading & manual intervention required than for most ports.

WACFL II [ Rants ]
Took three kids from Forest Park HS to the second WACFL Lincoln-Douglas debate tournament on Saturday, and they did fairly well. Jessica found out that Forest Park had a debate team earlier this year, and was scheduling team meetings when the sniper attacks shut down all after-school activities. So we ended up having about 3 weeks to get the kids prepared for the tournament, with two meetings and practice rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday last week.

The Redskins beat the Rams in front of nearly 80 thousand fans on Sunday - woohoo! It was a hell of a game, I nearly yelled myself hoarse at FedEx field. Jessica was lucky enough to buy tickets to the game from her former boss, who has season tickets in section 112, row 21.
Looks like Danny Wuerfful's a pretty good QB after all, he got the fan's respect after pushing through against the Rams' defense to set up 3 TD's from Stephen Davis and scrambling for a critical first down in one drive. The 'Skins kicking game, for lack of a better term, absolutely sucked.

New, improved site [ Site Info ]
Moved site over to Movable Type 2.51 after finding multiple reports of security holes in GreyMatter. The author of GreyMatter isn't maintaining the software, so the chances of these or future holes getting fixed is rather slim, despite volunteer efforts. So I switched, and the site looks a little different now.

New site config [ Site Info ]
Moved the site over to Greymatter 1.21b. Seems like a pretty neat piece of software, way more features than I'll probably use, but it's up and working after about 4 hours worth of downloading/installing/configuring/tweaking. Still need to move over the bits of content I'd written up long ago for the site, and update the navigation menu, but it's mostly functional.
