New (sort of) Sun 630MP, woohoo! [ Software ]
Picked up a Sun SPARCserver 630MP from a kindly sun-rescue list member today - he needed to find a good home for it, and I'm all too happy to take it for free. Josh rolled the thing down to his apartment's loading dock area, and we managed to hoist it into the back of my CRV. He was nice enough to throw some extra gear in, just for the sake of getting it out of his place.
Jessica's thrilled, of course, to get yet another big noisy box in our basement. I'm already trying to figure out what to do with the box to make it useful, mayhaps a mail server?
Specs are as follows:
Sun SPARCserver 630MP
2x Ross HyperSPARC RT625 (100 Mhz, 256Kb cache) CPUs
2x Quantum Fireball TM211 (2.1GB) disks
WangDAT 4MM DDS SCSI-2 tape drive
128MB 30pin 80ns parity RAM on main VME board
SUNW,fas Fast Ethernet + SCSI SBUS card
Details:
( from http://www.sunhelp.org/faq/sunref1.html )
SPARCserver 6xxMP/xx
Processor(s): Mbus modules
CPU: 501-1686/2055
Chassis type: rackmount
Bus: VME; SBus @ 20MHz; and Mbus
Memory: 640M physical
Architecture: sun4m
Notes: First Mbus-based machine. Cypress/ROSS Mbus modules later upgraded to TI SuperSPARC modules
(/xx models). Code name "Galaxy". Up to four CPUs. 4M or 16M x 9 80ns 30-pin SIMMs.
( from http://mbus.sunhelp.org/systems/sun/ss600.htm )
The SS600 family consists of the SS630, SS670 and SS690, which all use the same systemboard, but in chassis that have different expansion capacities (memory-expansion boards, VME I/O boards, drive-bays, and so on).
The system-board has a 40 MHz MBus, providing two opposed slots for plug-in MBus modules: slot M1 is nearest the VME backplane connectors, slot M2 is nearest the SBus expansion slots.
Configurations using a single CPU module must locate it in slot M1. Single-width modules installed in slot M2 block one of the SBus slots. Double-width modules in slot M2 block two SBus slots.
- Model: SPARCserver 630MP, SPARCsystem 630, Sun 4/630
- Bus: Sbus, Mbus, VMEbus
- VMEbus on the 630MP accomodates 9U Sun VME cards w/ 3 connectors, plus 6U 1-conn and 3U 2-conn VME cards on the side chassis.
- Arch: sun4m
- OS: Solaris 2.5.1 + Solstice DiskSuite 4.1-something
- RT620B Colorado-2 chips, 8KB L1 icache, 0KB L1 dcache - "HS-12" HM100D-256 dual CPU module, from http://mbus.sunhelp.org/modules/
run 'psrinfo -v' for details or 'module-info' at PROM for CPU info
MBus on RT625 runs at 55MHz, max 256?Kb L2 cache
( from http://mbus.sunhelp.org/chips/hyperbits.htm )
All HyperSPARC modules contain one or two RT620 CPUs, a group of RT627 or RT628
external cache data units (CDUs) for each CPU, and one RT625 or RT626 cache-controller,
memory-management and tag unit (CMTU) per CPU.
It is the CMTU that interfaces to the MBus, thus in many places
(bug-reports, PROM banner, Solaris messages file, Sun patch-reports,
etc.), such modules are described as "RT625" or "RT626" modules.
Can use these ROSS hyperSPARC MBus modules with the Ross 2.14.3H bootROM,
according to http://mbus.sunhelp.org/systems/sun/ss600.htm and
