Who am I?    [ Site Info ]

Who is this Eric Dobbs person anyway?

I've run into a few other Eric Dobbs-es before. I've sent email back and forth to another Eric Dobbs from Richmond VA, who also attended the University of Richmond, and there's an Eric Dobbs from Boulder Colorado as well.

To distinguish and differentiate myself, I've compiled the following list that may help you decide if I'm the Eric Dobbs you're looking for:

I'm working as a systems, network and security engineer for $LARGE_GOVERNMENT_AGENCY as a contractor.

I'm happily married, as proven by my wedding pictures.   Jessica and I met in high school, and were on the debate team together for a year and a half before we started dating.   We dated for five and a half years before getting married (we ran off and eloped!) on August 25 2000.

My parents live in Denver, Colorado, now that they've emptied their nest and my brother and I have our own homes.   They moved to Colorado in November 1998, after living in Northern Virginia since 1986.   And they've threatened to show the world my baby pictures if I didn't post this link. :)

I did high-school Lincoln Douglas debate for three years (from 1992-1995), and then went back to judge and coach debate for my high school for another six years after that, took a year off, and then coached at Forest Park High School for the 2002-2003 school year.   Jessica & We also helped out at NCFL Nationals 2003, hosted by WACFL, the local NoVA/MD/DC debate league affiliated with NCFL, and have some great blue t-shirts to prove it.

I enjoy playing with my boxen at home and at work.   I've been using Unix of one flavor or another for since I first tried installing Slackware Linux and FreeBSD on my Compaq Presario in the fall of 1995.   I've administered NT boxes for pain and profit, and use MS operating systems for games at home, but given my druthers, I'd rather be using Unix of some flavor.

I also spend some quality time with various computer and video games, not as much as these guys, but I've spent waaay too many hours glued to either a TV console or a video display.

I also enjoy getting outdoors for hiking and backpacking.   There's photographic evidence of that as well.

I'm a science fiction and history geek and a bookworm, and own more sci-fi, historical fiction, philosophy and nonfiction history books than I've actually read.   They keep on showing up at Christmas and my birthday, and I can't turn them down.   It doesn't help that my wife has a similar addiction.
